Monika Turczyńska is an artist, curator and founder of A Space Gallery in Venice, working across exhibition-making, installation, writing and long-term conceptual research.

Her practice is centered on the conditions through which matter, memory and perception generate meaning. Rather than treating exhibitions as neutral containers for artworks, she develops them as autonomous conceptual structures in which space, material, light, language and the viewer become part of a single field.

A Space Gallery Venice

Turczyńska founded A Space Gallery in Venice as an independent platform for contemporary art, curatorial research and international dialogue. Located in Castello, the gallery develops projects in direct relation to Venice and the wider cultural context of the Biennale season.

Her work also develops in dialogue with ORAC Gallery, connecting projects realized in Venice with a longer curatorial program spanning Warsaw and international presentations.

MINORIA

At the center of Turczyńska’s current practice is MINORIA, an ongoing artistic and curatorial project exploring emergence, transformation and the fragile threshold between presence and disappearance.

Each chapter of MINORIA begins from a different material, place or phenomenon. The project does not seek to illustrate a closed theory. Instead, it creates situations in which meaning unfolds through the encounter between matter, memory, space, time and perception.

Within this framework, the exhibition becomes a form of thought: a spatial proposition that remains open, unstable and dependent on the viewer’s encounter with it.

Venice and Shape of Breath

In September 2026, Turczyńska presents MINORIA: Shape of Breath at A Space Gallery as part of The Venice Glass Week 2026. The site-specific installation examines glass as frozen breath — a material record of fire, movement, temperature, labour and transformation — and places it in tension with metal, sand and new works by Józef Krzysztof Oraczewski.

The project extends MINORIA toward questions of material continuity, disappearing glassmaking traditions and the fragile cultural infrastructures through which knowledge, craft and memory survive.

Curatorial approach

Turczyńska’s curatorial work is defined by long-term development rather than isolated exhibition events. Projects are conceived as chapters that can return, transform and acquire new meanings in different contexts. Artistic practice, curatorial authorship and philosophical inquiry are treated as interconnected rather than separate activities.

Her approach emphasizes precision of space, conceptual continuity and the material intelligence of artworks. The exhibition is understood not only as a presentation format, but as an active medium capable of producing its own form of knowledge.
