OPEN CALL — MINORIA — LATENT

Photography and still digital art • A Space Gallery, Venice • 9–10 January 2027

Applications are open

Deadline: 20 December 2026, 23:59 CET (Venice time). Early bird: EUR 25 through 31 October 2026, 23:59 CET. Standard fee: EUR 35 from 1 November through 20 December 2026, 23:59 CET. Each fee covers one application of up to three works; the participation package is identical. Up to 12 artists will be selected, with one work by each printed locally and exhibited. There is no additional participation, printing or installation fee for selected artists.

The curatorial theme

An image may exist before it becomes visible. In photography, the latent image offers a starting point for considering what remains concealed, what gradually emerges and what an image allows us to recognise. MINORIA — LATENT invites artists to explore hidden relationships, traces of presence and memories that become legible through an image.

Works may approach the theme through the body, landscape, interiors, everyday objects or abstraction. Neither analogue photography nor a depiction of Venice is required. Curated by Monika Turczyńska, LATENT is part of MINORIA, her ongoing curatorial project exploring the space between perception, material and memory.

Who can apply

Artists aged 18 and over, based anywhere in the world. Eligible media: photography, photomontage, digital collage and still digital artworks suitable for printing. Entirely AI-generated images are not eligible; any AI-assisted processes must be disclosed. Applicants must own the necessary rights and obtain any relevant permissions for identifiable subjects or third-party material.

Submit one application containing one to three works. Up to 200 applications will be accepted; the form may close earlier when this limit is reached. Each work must include an image, title, year and medium. Add a short biography (up to 150 words), contact details and, if desired, an optional artist statement about your practice or works (up to 200 words). Applicants do not need to explain how their works fit the LATENT theme. Upload JPG or PNG previews; final production files are requested only from selected artists.

Selection

Monika Turczyńska selects up to 12 artists on the basis of artistic strength, originality, relationship to the curatorial theme and suitability for the print format and exhibition space. One work per selected artist will be exhibited. The organiser and the curator's immediate family are not eligible. This is a curated exhibition open call, with no cash prize, public ranking or external jury. Payment does not guarantee selection. Individual feedback is not included.

What the gallery provides

For each selected artist: production of one exhibition print on a 30 × 40 cm sheet of photographic paper, preserving the image proportions without cropping; simple mounting and installation; a work label; public presentation on 9–10 January 2027; inclusion in the exhibition's online presentation and PDF catalogue; and at least two photographs documenting the exhibition. The online presentation will remain available for at least 12 months.

The gallery arranges printing locally from the artist-approved file and layout. Framing, numbered editions and museum-grade archival certification are not included. Minor differences between screen and print colour are possible. The exhibition print is a display copy and will not be sold or treated as part of an edition without a separate written agreement with the artist.

What the artist provides

The artist supplies accurate information, a print-ready file and the necessary reproduction permissions, confirms participation and delivers final files by 30 December 2026 and approves the print layout by 2 January 2027. For production, prepare a high-quality JPG or TIFF, preferably sRGB, at approximately 300 dpi at the intended printed size (a full 30 × 40 cm image is approximately 3543 × 4724 pixels). Do not enlarge a small preview artificially; contact the gallery if resolution is uncertain.

No physical shipment or travel is required. Optional travel and accommodation are the artist's responsibility. The gallery does not cover these costs or guarantee sales, press coverage, visitor numbers or future representation. Missing the file or approval deadline may result in the place being offered to a reserve artist; the gallery will first try to contact the selected artist.

After the exhibition, the artist may arrange collection of the display print with the gallery. Postal return and storage are not included. Any disposal of an uncollected display copy will be agreed with the artist; the gallery will not sell or reuse it for another exhibition without permission.

Fee, payment and withdrawals

Early bird: EUR 25 through 31 October 2026, 23:59 CET. Standard fee: EUR 35 from 1 November through 20 December 2026, 23:59 CET. Each fee covers one application of up to three works; the participation package is identical. The applicable application fee is the total charged by the organiser for reviewing the application. It supports the application process and exhibition production; it is not a purchase of guaranteed selection. Payment is made through the dedicated Wix form. An application is complete only when the required material and payment have been received. Your bank may apply its own currency-conversion charges.

You may withdraw your application within 14 days of payment and receive a full refund, even if review has started. Send an unequivocal withdrawal statement, your name, application email and payment reference to aspacecastello@gmail.com or to the organiser's postal address below. Refunds will be issued using the original payment method within 14 days of receipt of the withdrawal. After this period, non-selection alone does not entitle the applicant to a refund. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.

If the organiser cancels the exhibition, all application fees will be refunded. If dates or material participation conditions change, applicants will be informed and offered withdrawal with a refund. Complaints or payment errors should be reported to aspacecastello@gmail.com; the organiser will respond within 14 days. Do not pay a second time if you are unsure whether the first payment succeeded.

Copyright and use of images

Artists retain copyright. Submitted images may be used privately for selection. Selected artists grant a non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to produce the agreed exhibition print and reproduce the selected work, with credit, for this exhibition's website, catalogue, publicity and documentary archive. No merchandise, commercial licensing, AI training or transfer of copyright is authorised. Unselected works will not be used for publicity without separate permission.
