MINORIA: The Active Image — Psychism and the Viewer’s Mind presents the work of Blaze Lojewski as a new chapter of the ongoing MINORIA project, developed by Monika Turczyńska and presented at A Space Gallery in Venice.

The exhibition introduces Lojewski’s concept of Psychism into the field of MINORIA, opening a psychological and perceptual dimension within the project. If MINORIA investigates the unstable threshold before form becomes fully present, Lojewski’s work shifts this question into the consciousness of the viewer. The image is no longer understood solely as a visible object, but as a field of activation.

Lojewski’s paintings do not simply present form. They create conditions in which form may appear, withdraw, hesitate, or be completed through perception. What remains subtle, suspended, or almost invisible on the surface of the work becomes active only in the encounter with the viewer.

The artist calls his works Tools. This term is central to his practice. A Tool is not a passive aesthetic object; it is something that acts. In Lojewski’s work, painting becomes an instrument of perception, projection, memory, and self-recognition. The viewer is not positioned outside the work as a neutral observer, but becomes part of the process through which the image begins to mean.

The featured installation, Two Rorschachs Playing Chess under Mondrian’s Supervision, brings together three conceptual orders: the projective logic of the Rorschach test, the strategic structure of chess, and the modernist discipline associated with Mondrian. Between psychological indeterminacy, possible moves, and geometric order, Lojewski constructs an active image — a field in which meaning is produced through encounter rather than given in advance.

Within ORAC Gallery’s curatorial programme, MINORIA: The Active Image marks an important extension of the MINORIA project. It demonstrates how the question of emergence may be approached not only through trace, light, material process, or absence, but also through the active consciousness of the viewer.

The image does not end on the canvas.
It begins again in the viewer’s consciousness.
