Elements
Alicja Maciejko
Solo exhibition
Elements is a solo exhibition by Alicja Maciejko, presented as part of the long-term curatorial programme Carnival Biennale Mask, developed by ORAC Gallery in Venice. This exhibition engages in a profound dialogue with the broader intellectual and cultural context of the Venice Biennale, reflecting on the intersections between architecture and visual art.
Maciejko’s practice operates at the confluence of architecture and visual arts, where structure is conceived not as a fixed form but as a dynamic process. It is shaped by the relationships between matter, space, and perception, emphasizing how architecture emerges not just as a tangible product, but through an evolving interaction with the environment. The works presented in Elements delve into the fundamental components of spatial experience: balance, rhythm, tension, and continuity. These components translate architectural logic into a sensory language, inviting the viewer to engage with the underlying principles of space.
Rather than representing architecture in a conventional sense, Elements unveils the quiet, unseen forces that govern space — the delicate structures that allow form to emerge. In this exhibition, the mask becomes a metaphor not of concealment, but of permeability. It is not an object meant to hide but a threshold that invites the viewer to engage with what lies beneath. The mask is redefined as a surface that opens pathways to inner structures, revealing what is otherwise unseen.
In the context of the Carnival Biennale Mask programme, the exhibition proposes a new way of perceiving form. It encourages a confrontation with form as an evolving, adaptable condition — one that is open to transformation through careful observation and attention. Elements invites us to reconsider our relationship to space, form, and perception, presenting architecture not as an immovable object but as a living, fluid, and sensitive process.
