A Space Gallery is pleased to present Pearl, a solo exhibition by Chantia Malaja, developed in dialogue with the wider cultural context of this year’s Venice Biennale. Through a new body of work centred on the symbolism of the pearl, Malaja reflects on transformation, otherness, and the complex process through which what is initially unfamiliar may be gradually internalised and redefined.
In Pearl, the pearl functions not simply as an image of beauty, but as a metaphor for formation through tension, exposure, and response. Malaja approaches transformation as a process shaped by contact with what resists immediate acceptance, suggesting that vulnerability and disturbance may also become conditions of growth.
Within the broader context of the Biennale’s theme, Foreigners Everywhere, the exhibition offers a symbolic reflection on the experience of encountering difference. Rather than addressing this theme directly, Malaja develops a visual language in which otherness appears as something both external…
